Feel Like Quitting Your Business?

Oct 11, 2023

Have you ever found yourself questioning and wondering what the hell you have got yourself into?

You thought that being an entrepreneur or business owner was going to give you flexibility or freedom.
But that just hasn't been the case.

You thought that hiring that first or subsequent team members was going to give you flexibility or freedom.
But again, that just hasn't been the case.

Each day you feel the peak of every high but also the dip of every low as you are trapped on this rollercoaster that has become your business. There is no emergency stop, there is no operator to help you. It is just you on this lonely journey that we all as business owners find ourselves on at times.

And honestly, you are considering throwing in the towel, cream out NO or maybe you are considering buring it to the ground.

I just want to tell you, you are not alone.

You are not the only person who has felt this way at some point on the business journey.

But there are options, so I want to give you 9 strategies to keep your business from going up in flames.

So before you decide to give in, give these a try:

  1. Breathe and Embrace Imperfection:
Feeling overwhelmed and comparing yourself to others on social media is a common pitfall. Remember that every successful entrepreneur has faced challenges and setbacks. Take a deep breath, acknowledge your feelings, and understand that it's okay to have tough moments.

  2. Surround Yourself with Like-Minded Entrepreneurs:
You don't have to go through difficult times alone. Connect with fellow entrepreneurs who understand the journey. Join networking groups, mastermind sessions, or find an accountability buddy. Having a support system can make a significant difference.

  3. Revisit Your Why:
Recall why you started your business in the first place. Beyond financial success, your business should fulfill a deeper purpose. Your "why" will act as a driving force to keep you motivated during challenging times.

  4. Find an Experienced Guide:
Seek guidance from someone who has walked the path before you. An experienced mentor or coach can provide valuable insights, helping you navigate obstacles more effectively and avoid costly mistakes.

  5. Evaluate Your Business Tools:
Analyze the tools and technology you use to run your business. Are they effective, or are they holding you back? Invest in the right marketing and sales tools that align with your business goals for sustainable growth.

  6. Shift Your Focus to Solutions:
Rather than dwelling on problems, focus on identifying, discussing, and solving them. A problem-solving mindset allows you to tackle issues head-on and find opportunities within challenges.

  7. Don’t worry about the storm, worry about having a really good anchor:
In the unpredictable world of business, challenges and setbacks are inevitable. However, by focusing on your anchor—the safety net, guidance, and experience it provides—you can approach these challenges with confidence. Just as a rock climber trusts their belayer, trust in your anchor to help you overcome obstacles and reach the summit of success. Remember, it's not about avoiding storms but about being prepared to face them head-on with the support of your anchor.

  8. Practice Gratitude:
Complaining and negative thinking can drain your energy. Instead, cultivate gratitude by acknowledging the positive aspects of your business and life. A grateful attitude can boost your resilience and outlook.

  9. Develop an Exit Plan (if necessary):
Always have an exit strategy in mind because the best way to grow a business is to grow it so that it is sellable. Stop selling you and start to sell the method, because then the business itself becomes a sellable asset as a coach.

Hold onto your anchor, get rid of the itty bitty shi!tty committee, find the solution, surround yourself with the right people and you too can ride out the storm so you can meet your future business knowing you had the power to not give up. Remember, it's not about avoiding difficulties, but about how you respond to them that truly matters.
